Every cave has a story to narrate. Geo tourism is one among Ecotourism. Cave tourism falls under Geo tourism. Visiting a cave is getting back to ancient times. Visiting a cave is like travelling back in time. You can find tranquilly in a shelter because it is quiet and gloomy. Children’s concentration levels can increase in caves. Another advantage of visiting a cave is increased creativity and mental clarity.

 

In India, there is a tonne of unexplored caverns. Here, a variety of items are visible. People go caving for research, education, recreation, and other purposes. It falls under adventure tourism.

Some of the significant caves in India are:

Edekkel Caves

Two caverns that display nature’s expertise and architectural philosophy are located 25 km from Kalpetta. On Ambukutty Mala, these caves are about 1,200 metres above sea level. “A stone in between” is the literal meaning of the name “Edakkal.” Here, a large boulder straddling a rock fissure has created a cave. There are two chambers visible inside the cave. They are 18 feet in the lowest chamber. On the cave walls are sculptures of people, animals, and tools used by people. These engravings provide compelling evidence of a highly cultured prehistoric civilization. The Edakkal caverns have captured the interest of archaeologists and historians worldwide.

Pandavas Rock

The Pandavan Rock serves as the setting for the multitudes of mythological tales found in the ancient Mahabharata epic. According to legend, the Pancha Pandavas lived in this cave during their wanderings through the jungles during their exile, making it both a mythological and a historical tourist destination. Of course, as time passed, the cave gradually turned into a small hilltop. It’s the perfect location for a family picnic and a fun evening. Unless one is elderly or physically capable, the climb to the summit of the rock is not particularly difficult. And once there, the vista is breathtaking! There are vantage places along the entire area. From Alleppey, getting to this location is simple via bus, cab, or auto-rickshaw.

Ajanta and Ellora caves

The Aurangabad area of Maharashtra, India, is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as Ellora. The caves, the oldest of which dates to the sixth century, are significant examples of Indian rock-cut architecture, particularly Badami Chalukya architecture. Undavalli Caves

These caverns were created by carving a single stone. It is located in the Guntur district. It has three levels and is one of the oldest caves of the 6th century. Additionally, the Reddys of Kondavidu and Sri Krishna-deva Raya left inscriptions inside the cave complex between the 12th and 14th centuries CE.
